On 6th October 2025, the UVCF Executive Director, Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo, together with the Secretariat, paid a courtesy visit to Siimi Technologies in Namanve, Uganda. This was the Forum’s first visit to the company.
On 6th October 2025, the UVCF Executive Director, Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo, together with the Secretariat, paid a courtesy visit to Siimi Technologies in Namanve, Uganda. This was the Forum’s first visit to the company.
The delegation was received by Mr. Armstrong, Vice President, and Mr. Dawd. The visit provided valuable insights into Siimi Technologies’ operations, particularly its role in assembling phones, laptops, projectors, and other ICT equipment locally. It was noteworthy that approximately 90% of the company’s workforce comprises female employees, reflecting Siimi’s strong commitment to promoting women’s participation in technology and manufacturing.
Discussions focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration between Siimi Technologies and universities in advancing technological innovation, digital learning, and local production capacity within Uganda’s higher education sector.
The Executive Director commended the company’s efforts in promoting local innovation and women’s empowerment, and pledged continued engagement between Siimi Technologies and the Uganda Vice Chancellors’ Forum in support of shared goals for national development.

Located in Namanve Industrial Park, SIMI is Uganda’s first mobile phone assembly and manufacturing company, operated by ENGO Holdings Uganda Limited, a Chinese electronics firm. The company produces about 2,500 phones daily, along with tablets, laptops, and other digital devices, for local and regional markets including Kenya, Morocco, and Tanzania. Notably, SIMI supplied solar-powered tablets for Uganda’s 2024 Census, demonstrating its contribution to national digital transformation.
