Enhancing Admissions Processes and Academic Programme Management in Higher Education Institutions

The Uganda Vice Chancellors’ Forum (UVCF) successfully organized a two-day Academic Registrars’ Training Workshop at Horizon Hotel, Entebbe, from 17th–18th July 2025. The workshop brought together Academic Registrars and senior academic administrators from public and private universities across Uganda to examine contemporary approaches to strengthening the effectiveness, transparency, and responsiveness of academic administration in higher education institutions.

The training provided a strategic platform for professional development, institutional benchmarking, and knowledge exchange, while promoting collaboration and networking among Academic Registrars. Participants engaged in critical discussions aimed at enhancing admissions management, academic programme administration, and institutional service delivery in an increasingly dynamic higher education environment.

The workshop addressed several key thematic areas, including:
The evolving role of the Academic Registrar – Exploring leadership responsibilities, strategic positioning, and institutional coordination. by Prof. Arthur Ahimbisibwe.
Streamlining admissions processes – Emphasizing data-driven selection, digitization, and inclusive recruitment. – By Dr. Mary Nakachwa.

University marketing and visibility – Developing registrar-supported outreach strategies to attract and retain students. – By Mr. Naris Tibenderana.
Alumni engagement – Tapping alumni networks for institutional development, mentorship, and marketing support. Technology in academic administration – Tools and systems for student records, registration workflows, and academic audits. By Mr. Marx Rukundo 

The workshop also featured interactive sessions and breakout discussions, enabling participants to share best practices, address common operational challenges, and develop practical strategies for improving admissions efficiency, records management, and academic programme oversight. The training concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of collaboration, innovation, and continuous professional development in strengthening academic administration within Uganda's higher education sector.
